Teresa Toten
Teresa Toten was born in Zagreb, Croatia, and immigrated to Canada as an infant. After completing her M.A. in Political Economy at the University of Toronto, she married and moved to Montréal, where whe wrote and broadcast for Radio Canada International. She also lived in Ottawa, where she worked as a speechwriter, press secretary and corporate secretary. A little more than a decade ago, she moved with her family to Toronto and began in earnest the pursuit of an obsession—writing for young adults and teens. Her first novel, The Onlyhouse, was a Canadian Library Association Honor Book, a Quill & Quire pick for one of its Four Favorite Works of Children's Fiction, and a finalist for the Ruth Schwartz and IODE Viloet Downey awards. The Onlyhouse also recieved a Canadian Children's Book Centre Our Choice Award. Teresa Toten keeps a busy speaking engagement schedule, giving creative writing workshops to school children across Canada and the United States.
