Donald Smith
Donald Smith is a professor of Canadian history at the University of Calgary. While doing research at the Glenbow Museum, he came across a file box of material on Chief Buffalo Child Long Lance, the author of the fascinating autobiography Long Lance. The clue provided in the file box sent the author on a six–year search for Long Lance's real identity. Donald Smith also is the author of Sacred Feathers: The Reverend Peter Jones (Kahkewaquonaby) and the Mississauga Indians, awarded a Regional History Certificate of Merit by the Canadian Historical Association, and From the Land of Shadows: The Making of Grey Owl, winner of the Writers Guild of Alberta Nonfiction Award. Donald Smith is donating all of the royalties from Chief Buffalo Child Long Lance to the Sheila Jameson Archive Fund at the Glenbow Museum in recognition of their support of his work.
