Catherine Simmons Niven grew up amid the stories of relatives who homesteaded in the prairie West.
As a child she remembers hearing often of the plight of unwed mothers. As an adult she became
interested in natural childbirth and midwifery. The town of Little Cypress in A Fine Daughter was drawn from Catherine's experiences growing up in Calgary, Alberta. She comes from a family
of five children and is now a writer and mother of three. She has been published in numerous magazines and anthologies including
NeWest Review, Vox and Secrets from the Orange Couch.
In an age of cynicism and despair, Catherine Simmons Niven wanted to write a book that "celebrates joy and promotes living from the heart." A Fine Daughter is her first novel.
She currently lives in Calgary, Alberta. |
