Andrew Weiner's first short story was published in Harlan Ellison's groundbreaking anthology, Again, Dangerous Visions. Since then he has published more than fifty short stories in magazines and anthologies including The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Asimov's Science Fiction, Interzone, Amazing Stories, Twilight Zone Magazine, Science Fiction Age, Prairie Fire, Quarry, Chrysalis, Tesseracts, Proteus and Full Spectrum. His stories have been translated into French, Italian, Czech, Polish and Japanese. Two of his stories ("Distant Signals" and "Going Native") were filmed for the TV series Tales from the Darkside and his "The News From D Street" was filmed for the Sci–Fi Channel's Welcome to Paradox.
Weiner's first novel, Station Gehenna, was published in 1988, with his first story collection, Distant Signals and Other Stories, following in 1990. The title story has been reprinted seven times in SF anthologies, including The Norton Book of Science Fiction and Best North American Science Fiction, 1960–1990. His second short story collection, This is the Year Zero, appeared in 1998. Weiner has also published two short collections and one novel in France: Envahisseurs! (1998), hailed by Le Monde as "brilliant and sophisticated," Signaux lointains (2000) and En approachant de la fin (2000), an earlier version of Getting Near the End.
Weiner holds an M.Sc. in social psychology from the London School of Economics. His articles have appeared everywhere from the New Musical Express to Reader's Digest, as well as in leading Canadian magazines including Canadian Business, Maclean's, and Toronto Life. He also is the author of six nonfiction books.
